Boss requirements #20

Open thezerothcat opened 7 years ago

thezerothcat commented 7 years ago

There are basically no requirements on bosses right now. Appropriate requirements should be determined (varying levels of difficulty) and added to the randomizer.

If anyone has opinions/requests for boss requirements, feel free to comment.

Zu should require the axe. Having to fight him with 64 health and the first whip is almost impossible since he has so much health.

thezerothcat commented 7 years ago

Thanks! Is there any amount of health where you'd find it reasonable to fight Zu without the axe? Or other weapons you'd consider acceptable?

Sephalos commented 7 years ago

The Axe and the Chain Whip are probably the two weapons for killing Zu, possibly around the 96-128 health mark. It might also be possible to freeze Zu by timing the Time Lamp at the right moment from what I hear but I can't confirm this. It's also possible to skip Zu for a long while if you have the Twin Statue to open up Twin Labyrinth.

thezerothcat commented 7 years ago

You can definitely freeze him with lamp. You can also walk right past him if you use lamp the moment you enter the screen (before he appears), but you'd need grail to get out.

You can skip him all the way until Baphomet unless there's something you need in that chest, since the only things he guards are the Sacred Orb chest and Baphomet's ankh.

I'm told it's possible to no-damage Zu even with base whip if you get him locked into a certain pattern, but it's not something I'd personally want to do given how much damage he does and how much hp he has.

Sephalos commented 7 years ago

Definitely possible to take down Zu without taking damage and starter equipment, but that would take a lot of time. Based on what I know I would reccomend to go with Chain Whip, Axe or Time Lamp (one of the three) as a requirement for killing Zu. Or alternatively Twin Statue requirement for exploring the rest of Twin Labyrinth.

thezerothcat commented 7 years ago

Twin Statue is already a requirement for the things it lets you access. It's mainly just boss requirements I'm concerned with here, although if you spot a mistake with requirements, I'd definitely like to know about it!

The setup I'm using allows more than one thing to be required at a time, and also allows alternatives, and HP/Sacred Orbs are also included.

For now, I'll consider your recommended minimum requirements for defeating Zu to be:

Not sure how much HP you'd want in order to fight him with Katana, Knife, Key Sword (before or after mantras) or base whip, if you'd consider any of those to be doable at all. Katana seems like it should be, since the damage is the same as the axe, but the hitbox might make things hard enough that you'd want more HP.

Sephalos commented 7 years ago

I think those are fair amounts of HP. Katana might be possible with the same amount of health if there's enough time to jump slash and break Zu's time stop (might require testing). Alternatively the Gun could kill him as well, but might be too dependent on if the player wasted bullets and has money to buy more bullets.

Any other weapon I would say would require me around 196 HP. It's also worth considering that a healing fairy can help as a substitute for a Sacred Orb or two but not sure if it should be added to requirements.

thezerothcat commented 7 years ago

I could certainly see fairy replacing at least one orb in this case, particularly since there's a fairy point 2 screens away. Thanks for the input!

Fairy clothes should also be considered. And when considering a healing fairy, don't forget Isis' Pendant as a requirement.

Boss logic should probably assume you have no pistol ammo unless you have fairy access (for money farming).

Unless fighting Ox-head and Horse-face with 32HP and the starting whip is "easy boss logic". Even the free six pistol shots are not enough to finish one of them off.
