Hi Cosmin,
I can see that this could be a good change but it would help if we could
imagine the same examples.
Could you give me the sort of scenario (search string) you are thinking of when
you would like to see 100's of results and not refine the search query?
What if we were to increase the maximum beyond 100 but still have a maximum?
Regards
Martin

Dear Martin,
Thank you for looking into my request concerning search capabilities of
AndBible. Ive been studying the bible since I was 24, now Im 40, and one
of the tools I used in the beginnings was the concordance. That was in
Romania. Later, somebody gave me a comprehensive concordance, which I loved
dearly. When I got my first computer, I used for a while PCBibleStudy, and
then I moved up using E-sword. The bible softwares I used/am using on my PCs
have search capabilities, and this tool will never ever replace any other
tool or commentary.
For a serious bible study I use the PC for obvious reasons: speed, maturity
of the software, and library resources. When you read your introductory
books for how to study the Scriptures, and I have a feeling you have an
Idea what Im talking about, for the topical study the concordance is vital.
Better concordance, better and deeper results. This where search replaced
concordance.
I want to know how many times and where Solomon used the word vanity, and
in my E-sword I get 35 hits in 30 verses. In the entire bible is 36 hits in
32 verses. I want to know how many times the original word was used, so Im
searching for the Hebrew word (number assigned to it) in a version that has
Heb and Gr Strongs numbers. I get 73 hits in 64 verses. If I get
derivatives of vanity, and things get lengthier.
In some cases I want to know how Paul used a word, like Law, or salvation,
or any other important word (yeah, some people try to twist the Scriptures
by denying the simple meaning of a word) and that will require more targeted
results and study, along with dictionaries, maybe commentaries. So to me, a
good search tool has a complete number of hits, and the ability to search
portions of Scriptures.
I understand this project takes time and brains. I really appreciate your
efforts, and Id like you keep in mind that when a work is done right, you
dont have to go back and fix it, or improve it. My request about search
will come back to you from another person, in a different form. Search
function is very important, and I dont have words to emphasize it!
Thanks for taking your time reading this.
Keep in touch,
Cosmin Cazan

I would like to clarify a portion of the email I sent you earlier.
I wrote, "*My request about search will come back to you from another
person, in a different form.*"
I should have written: "you may get the same request from a different
person, but in a different form."
Sincerely,
Cosmin

Hi Cosmin,
Thank you for your ideas and also for axpanding them. I also think it would be
a good idea to extend search in the future and we need to think how best to do
it on a small mobile phone.
Perhaps you would like to add this request to And Bible's list of user requests
which can be found at: https://andbible.uservoice.com/. This would also allow
others to comment on this idea more easily.
Best regards
Martin

Maximum result count has been increased to 1000. I think there needs to be a
maximum and 1000 results should cover all practical searches.
