Committing a bunch of bug fixes that the last PR left in it's wake.

It still doesn't work through and through, due to the issues we discussed yesterday, but I wanted to put these fixes in and then branch from here to work on back end delegator stuff, then continue on with making the whole name/strings thing work.

This PR can seem a bit messy in the overview because it is basically a bunch of quasi-related code fixes, but if you review it commit-by-commit its much easier to follow IMO

@thieman dunno if you wanna look at this, pretty simple bug fixes, will probably merge by EOD to push for the next PR
