discussed today how to use the channels like discord more, also internal communication:

After some research, I found out that Discord and Slack are the most recommended social tools to communicate with developer communities. There are many websites which compare a lot of these social platforms, like this website: https://www.commsor.com/post/comparing-6-common-social-platforms-for-your-community.

We can switch to another platform, but that means we start all over again. Also, if we move for instance to Slack, we need a subscription, while Discord is free to use. It is also possible to switch to an open-source platform. There are many open-source communication tools available, here are some of the most used https://isotropic.co/top-open-source-chat-tools/. These tools require a subscription as well and we also need to build from scratch.

As we already have a (small) community, my recommendation would be, keep using Discord. But we need to put a bit more focus on its usage. The following recommendations would help to get an increase in community members.

trigger active behaviour every time new content/technical topics related to thin-edge.io share it on discord active engage with users

invite people from different entry points into discord, website, medium, Twitter etc.

decide to revive Discord or not... discord bot: welcome with guidance on how to use what should be the right way of communication, and guide users. questions, issues etc.

summary: keep discord, activities to promote it: clear about place to communicate plan what to promote on discord add to monthly schedule respond to people
