in future:

[ ] IMU connected
[ ] TOF connected
[ ] battery balanced

What's the planned method for surfacing this information? I2C/SPI display? Serial? Blinking patterns of on board LEDs? All three?

I think this is a good reason to have a small onboard display. I assume we'll almost always be connected to the pi via ssh, so we can see the status sent over serial. I'm not sure whether it'd be better for the pi to handle the display, or the rp2040.
