Technical Help? #1025

Google Chrome ONLY?

I opened an acc't at gourmetrecipemanager.com today. I tried to upload .grmt, .xml and .db files of my (1400-odd) recipes. I tried to upload .pdf-s, too. Nothing worked. Viewing github I believe I must use Google's Chrome Browser exclusively. Am I understanding correctly? Chrome or nothing?

  1. Does anyone know If it possible to use the Linux version of Chrome called Chromium with your extension? It is the only time I will use Chrome. (I use Firefox as my daily driver.)
  2. What is the easiest way to put my 1400 recipes onto the server? I cannot do it one at a time. I'm crazy for cooking, not crazy for computer!!!

Mark,

Still in beta. The extension is currently chrome only, but the app isn't meant to be. That said, I think there was a firefox bug last I checked that might be blocking it from working there. It should certainly work in chromium though. The extension makes importing from websites easy -- in theory it shouldn't be too bad to port the extension to firefox as they have a lot in common, but I haven't tested it there.

For the 1400 recipes, the key is to convert them into the web format for now. It should be pretty straightforward for me to write a converter for .grmt => the web format, but I haven't done it yet. Do you have an installation of Gourmet working right now on a linux box? If so, the python script attached should live in the gourmet/gourmet/db folder and then if you run it directly, it should export a giant json file which is the import format currently in use.

I should really make a direct .grmt => json converter that can run in the browser though, as a lot of people may have backed up recipes but won't have a working gourmet as python 2 becomes harder to get working. Making a direct .db => json converter is a little harder to do, though, though it may also be possible.

As you have taken GRM to cloud hosted recipes, may I PLEASE give you this one piece of information. For years, when I had the URL: unidentifiedparty.com, I used Nearly Free Speech as the hosting service. I believe I was charged 50 cents a gigabyte of bandwidth usage. Given your usage, it could be as little as 25 cents. I hope this is useful to you.
