I quickly hacked together a tiling grassy background too. It's in the repo as GrassyBackground.png.
Did you see the latest version with less distracting backgrounds, that vary between each level? I like having some more visual distinction between levels.
We talked earlier about using a simple isometric projection like: http://www.untoldentertainment.com/blog/img/2009_09_22/habbo.jpg
But I think an overhaul on that level should be more of a version 2 type of thing?
I did not!
Isometric means the track is going to be really awkward. I think keeping the track horizontal is a good idea.
Maybe.
I don't think it would be too awkward. We would have to get rid of the nice beizers, and render the train from 3 angles, but that should be all. http://imageshack.us/f/823/isotrains.png/
That's sort of what I had in mind when I said oblique. :D
Awesome! I really like the new background, and I do like the isometries, I'd be happy to work on those after exams. In particular, isometries would make the game look much more natural about moving trains, easier to image in the real world, which is what our goal is.
Ed, by new graphics, I hope you don't mean all new graphics for theme, I thought we already agreed that the brown and black theme, with colored buttons and space-looking menus?
Some of the feedback for our game included that the graphics for components were not useful at all, and that the background is distracting.
I think it might be worth redoing all the graphics to be both better usability wise and consistency wise.
Do we want to commit to a particular projection and colour scheme? I was thinking that an oblique projection might be a good idea.

It doesn't have perspective, which means everything is easily done with sprites, but allows you to easily convey buildings like a depot.
As for the colour scheme, I was thinking we could go the route of various landscapes (snow, grassy, even Martian landscape!). The variation between levels could be a nice bit of eye candy. Alternatively, what about blueprint style?
I had a few ideas for the components, and when I find a scanner/time to vectorise them, I'll throw them up here.
