Created an ABC for our UI components
Add concept of sorting including option and defaults
Update test for _safe_opt when attr is None

This is a work in progress.

This seems to be working now. I'll update the docs tomorrow and merge then. Don't want to merge before sleeping in-case anything breaks, but it looks good so far.
