Hey everybody,

Recently the media has reported that the Australian spy agencies will get a $600 million per year boost and essentially become mini clones of the NSA. (Article) - Video

I've personally be involved with running a lot of campaigns against the NSA over the past year and would love to run a campaign for Australia. (Campaigns)

We would attempt to raise awareness of the issue and also let individuals place pressure on legislators who misrepresent them via calls, emails and other social media avenues. (Example)

I'm sure all skill sets can be utilized and look forward to hearing from anyone interested.

Things needed

Orgs can participate by simply sharing on the launch dates in exchange for a logo on the home page

Design

It will be a modern/casual website with friendly toned language. Design inspiration may be taken from TDWFB, BattleForTheNet, ResetTheNet, StandAgainstSpying

Open Source

Lots of libraries for contacting legislators will be built out and open sourced under the github.com/australia account.

Legislation

This needs some work, but we will flesh out ideal outcomes and achievable outcomes and aim for somewhere in between.

Looks like legislation will be coming out in September

Start an irc/jabber/trello/message board, or something so that organising is possible ;)

Dataset of all current Australian legislators containing. Email, Website, Twitter, Facebook Pages

Best to keep a single sharable source for these things. Because composability.

Rather than jabber, which I have used, even with otr, name is in plaintext. My understanding is that otr is not used in xmpp muc. Better to use something like RetroShare, which has private lobbies, so some things can be discussed and shared behind closed, secure doors.

Even encrypted email, leaves name of sender and receiver as well as subject in plain text.

And why still using gmail which is scanned and stored by NSA et al?

Hey everybody, there is a new organization and repository now, we will continue discussions there -> https://github.com/stopthespies/website/issues/2
