It would be nice if the bot could work on protocols other than IRC.

This would involve some refactoring of the main code, but also, I suspect, the plugins.

Depends upon #2 which should make the transition easier when it is fixed.

IRC and Command Line backends now exist for Python port. More backends may be added later.
