Analytics would certainly help me to gauge interest, and we can collect analytics data completely anonymously in compliance with GDPR laws - no cookie notice required.
The question is whether or not it provides a benefit to others. Say someone forks the project and hosts their own instance of Toodles with the intent of sharing it with others... It would help them to have the option to collect anonymous analytics, no? Like me, they too could gauge the interest of their users in their instance of Toodles, enabling them to make decisions about whether to continue hosting it, perhaps whether to place ads on the page...
And speaking of ads... there's a point at which a cookie notice does become beneficial, since third-party ads do tend to collect data, correct?
These are features we might like to make optional, should other devs wish to fork and use Toodles for commercial purposes.
The easiest start to any of that is anonymous analytics, which will enable me to gauge a very simple metric: people's interest in Toodles. I don't want or need a lot more than that at this stage. My only monetisation interests right now are donations, info about which might find its way onto the about page.
