Using the Arrow Keys to extend a selection.
repeatedly pressing Arrow Key will extend selection in arrow direction one at a time
depending on the initial selection this works on faces, edges perpendicular to a loop or edge loops (see images: Example02.jpg - Example04.jpg for reference).
Optional additional functionality:
Ctrl + Arrow Key selects whole loop (as opposed to one element at a time)
Alt + Arrow Key moves the selection by one loop (i.e. when a loop is selected and you press Alt + Up Arrow, the loop above will be selected instead)
hitting ENTER will make the current selection basis for further operations. For reference see Img02_ArrowSelectin2.jpg (where Right Arrow and then Up Arrow was pressed) and Img03_ArrowSelection3.jpg (where Right Arrow, then ENTER, then Up Arrow was pressed).
