Crashing Problem. #32

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Starting up the FPSC program
2. (if the program actually starts up) creating a test level, or building a
game.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected output: Test level starts up, program starts up, game is build
completely, but usually the same window pops up saying: "The application has
encountered a problem... Your level could be too large, or you're building too
many levels." I usually build my levels well under the memory cap of 1.6 GB,
and I only have two levels built at the moment, so I have no idea what is
causing this.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I am using the V1.118.7 Beta version (after using the latest patch beforehand,
V1.117) on an improved Compaq Evo W4000 Windows XP with a 2 GB RAM.

Please provide any additional information below.
If I restart my computer, the FPSC program will corrupt and display the error
window stating that the level or so is too big, which can be seen below. After
that, the program will instantly close. If I try opening it again, the main
menu will say: "Checking files for you..." And the program will never fully
open. This can also be seen below in the screenshot provided.

Cannot reproduce on my XP test system here. Can I confirm you have a standard
XP operating system with nothing running in the background, you are running
administrator mode, no security programs running, and that when you run the
program from a FRESH re-boot the FPSC editor crashes BEFORE you see the empty
grey grid of the map editor.

These two pictures show my operating system and my administrator profile,
nothing really running but the Firefox window which I am using to have just
seen your response (as I am very eager to get back to working on my game). The
first one is of my operating system. You may have to enlarge it to see it
better, but I'm pretty sure my OS is quite good for the model I'm using, hehe.
And the second picture is of my hard drive, showing that I'm the only profile
on my computer. Also, the first picture above, entitled Error-2 shows that the
program crashed before I saw the map editor grid. By the way, nice work on the
upgraded stock-weapons, friend.

Okay, for some reason, FPSC works now, but for another unknown reason, it's
working extremely slow, as in, a couple of updates ago slow. Also, some of the
entities in the TEST LEVEL mode have become white and lost it's texture. This
can be seen below. Another thing that I noticed and has helped me conclude to
is the next picture down, which shows the sample level showcasing the water
elements is actually missing the water. I can swim and everything, but the
water is missing. I have concluded that as I downloaded the latest BETA,
something went amazingly wrong. Will the finalized Version 1.18 update help me
once it comes out?

Can you create a simple level with just a floor and start marker, and send me a
shot of that as well, thanks. Ensure full effects is OFF and you do this
immediately following a fresh reset.

Do you mean like this? I'm using the basic 'ground' segment, and the land mass
is just 7x7 squares. Apparently, full shader effects have always been off. I
also took note of how high the little bars are at at the bottom of the screen.
Do you think that that is unusually high for just a 7x7 square of ground, and a
player start marker?

I think the issue is that although the Compaq Evo W4000 is a decent machine,
the latest version of FPSC requires a high performance gaming rig to run
content rich levels. Can you tell me what graphics card you have installed?
Also, can you load up the scifi-1.fpm level that comes with the original
product and take a shot of that (so I can see the resource bars at the bottom).
Thanks.

I can't right now though. The program has gone back to saying that my levels
are too big, and I can't open it. I dunno what to do though, since earlier
updates made it run a little smoother on some of my bigger levels. I think my
OS might have a virus or has taken a really bad beating, or like you said
before. :-(

Cannot fix this without being able to reproduce. When you get the chance, try
on a fresh machine or installation with the final V118 update.
