Paperback Gem #115

Hey, I've just purchased the book and been looking over the code in this repo. Is the Paperback gem going to be open sourced at all as it looks like it will be handy for the book I'm writing? Thanks!

Hi @deanperry -

There's been a lot of discussion about what to do with the paperback gem. As of now, it is a complete pain to set up because there are a bunch of dependencies and depending on install order they sometimes break. I think some people at thoughtbot are working on turning paperback into more of a saas offering rather than a library so the dependencies are less of an issue.

In conclusion: plan is currently NOT to open source, although there are plans in the works to make paperback's functionality available to the public as a service. Currently checking in with the team working on that project for an ETA. Will report back.

Thanks for reading!

OK, sounds good. Thanks!

Hey @deanperry ! Sounds like there are no immediate plans to open source paperback, as I said before.

The future development plans for the service I was talking about include using softcover. That project is still very much in progress so I wouldn't wait on it, but maybe softcover will provide what you need in the meantime: https://www.softcover.io/

Good luck!
