in my import-export-tools-ng i cannot find a function to import .eml files, only mbox is supported. any idea? i'm using tb68 and Ubuntu 20.04

@kwrxps unfortunately some of the original menu is not clear and there is no built-in help. I have a new release coming out within a couple days. I have finally started an internal help/user guide. It is by no means complete yet , but I show all of the menu choices with a description.

The import of EML files is done under the menu "Import All Messages From a Directory" @cleidigh

If you're interested, the final beta is here: https://github.com/thundernest/import-export-tools-ng/blob/master/xpi/import-export-tools-ng-4.1.0-b28-tb.xpi

Hallo Cristopher

thanks for your quick response, i have tried all the options mentioned without success. the specified column is not accessible , displayed in light grey or if not pointing to an address where TB does not answer, the display freezes. i'll try your new beta. thanks for help.

excuse my broken English, I'm from Germany writing

cleidigh commented 4 years ago

@kwrxps No need for an excuse, your English is a lot better than my German (I am able to order a good beer when I have been in Germany ;-)

What folder . do you have selected . When you open the menus? Below is a screenshot from my Mint VM image

Also you could look at the debug console for errors

Hallo Christopher!

thanks for the screenshot last night,

i was already at this point and then the next window is missing: where should i import the eml files from? i manually copied some files into the directory from where i started the operation, but they were not recognized either. i need the possibility to specify an import path here, or is my approach wrong? or is ubuntu 20.04 not adapted here?

Update : I saw  you have updated i/e-tools-ng to v4.1 and installed them , but the result is the same.

That was the bad news.

Now the good news:

i have a linux 18.04 lts system with tb68.7 and i/e-tools-ng 4.10b27.

here everything works fine as expected.

i imported 6000 .eml files within minutes and the import-from screen appeared also.

Nevertheless i am clueless how to handle linux 20.04

there are some other strange reactions regarding clipboard, screenshots, shift to other applications ...snap ins..., handle cellphones...

is there another forum like github where i can address my observations and questions?

Thanks for your work!

@kwrxps okay that's good news about v18. I have Mint 19.3 which is , I assume Ubuntu 19.3 I think there may be issues with Thunderbird as there really are not many platform dependencies within the extension. I installed Mint just about 2 months ago so I would presume 20 is pretty cutting edge which would make me believe it is Thunderbird. My familiarity with the latest Lx is pretty limited and I have to do most of my work on Windows where I have the dictation software. I will see if I can find out anything about U20x @cleidigh
