Automated Backup ImportExportTools NG -- POP-UP enhancement request #195

Open Al-NN4ZZ opened 3 years ago

Al-NN4ZZ commented 3 years ago

BACKGROUND: The automated backups can be scheduled to run on a frequent basis (daily, weekly, etc) When a backup is ready to be run because the time period has elapsed, the user is only notified when they exit/close the program. When TB is closed, there is the message saying a Backup is needed and asking if they want to do it. Many of us leave Thunderbird up and running for weeks at a time and don't realize it is time for a backup.

ENHANCEMENT IDEA: When a backup is ready to be run ( i.e. the time between backups has expired) activate a pop-up / or alert advising the user. The user should have several options to respond to the pop-up / alert.

Here are some mockups to illustrate the idea...

Here is an example of the pop-up in Thunderbird for an available update. It appear as a dialogue in the forefront of Thunderbird.

The pop-up I'm suggesting above to alert the user that it is time for an update should work in a similar fashion.

Thanks...Al

@Al-NN4ZZ I have been distracted lately! I think your concept makes sense. I will have to make a assessment on effort then figure out where it fits in the queue. circling through all of my extensions is pretty time consuming. cheers Christopher

Any updates?

Any updates?... I would like to backup my whole Thunderbird profile every day (or at least every week) automatic, and I didn't find any workful solution for it. The problem is, that I have only POP3 protocol and Inbox file breaks, if there is any new message while copying. Unfortunately, I can't move my mail to IMAP, it's not a variant. Automatic closing Thunderbird (like in crontab killing process) before backup is not a variant either, because it's not safe. Manual closing Thunderbird would solve my problem, but, as I said, I need to do it automatic). For example, If I am absent for a few weeks, backup should continue working fine. If anyone have already found working solution for it?
