I am mistaken about the opt-in. It appears the options are opt-in (not checked be default) on Beta/ESR, but I was using Daily at the time where they are opt-out (checked by default). It might be worth clarifying given that we point Daily users to the same page as everyone else.
Digging a little bit deeper, I can now see how PII is explicitly handled in the recording code. I'm more comfortable with the wording now, as long as we trust the Gecko code to do the right thing and we're careful ourselves adding profiler code (there is none in Thunderbird so far). That said I can still see a few URLs like imap://geoff%40thunderbird%2Enet@imap.gmail.com:993/fetch%3EUID%3E/INBOX/public%20lists%3E7596
which obviously contains my email address.
