Problem you are trying to solve
I use an entire mail domain for my email, allocating different username portions to each business I interact with. Using both K-9 and the Thunderbird desktop client, when composing an email, you have a dropdown next to the From: address that allows you to select from the configured identities. The Thunderbird desktop has an additional entry at the bottom of the identities list, though, "Customize From Address...", which makes the From: address an editable field allowing any arbitrary address to be entered. This is very useful to me, as it means I don't need to go into my settings and configure new identities for every address I choose to send from. Obviously, it's entirely up to me to ensure that I enter a valid address.
Suggested solution
Implement a similar "Customize From Address..." option that allows for arbitrary address entry to match the Thunderbird desktop functionality.
