Problem you are trying to solve

With a catchall domain, I receive emails sent to anything@my.domain.

When an email arrives for X@my.domain and I hit reply, I cannot make the from-address of this reply be X@my.domain as I would on thunderbird desktop unless I create a new identity.

On android I'd have to: click menu click save as draft click back click menu click settings click to select account click sending mail click manage identities click menu click new identity click description, type click email address, type click save click back click back click back click back click menu click drafts click the email click from click on identity done

needless to way, that is so painful I often put off replying until I get to Thunderbird on my desktop.

Suggested solution

minimally: If k9 would only allow me to reply-send From the same address that I received the email on, that would be great already.

I found a locked issue going all the way back to 2015 raising some of these issues. So if this counts as a duplicate, I apologise.

https://github.com/thunderbird/thunderbird-android/issues/935

But it makes no sense to me. I am not sure what that means? What is the reason for allowing "customise from" on desktop thunderbird but not on mobile? Surely this painful workflow I describe can't be deliberate?

This is a duplicate of #935.

Not everything currently available or not available in one of the apps was a deliberate design decision. Not everything that we agree should be changed is important enough to be changed right away.
