Currently, all markdown docs add specific metadata by means of the pandoc_title_block markdown extension, which limits it to three items: $title$/$pagetitle$, $author$ and $date$.
Replacing this with the use of the yaml_metadata_block extension should allow us to introduce additional metadata variables, for example a fixed metadata-based version for contributed tutorial translations.
