Feature selection approaches using tidymodels #124

I apologize for making a "bug report" here. However there is no appropriate place to create a discussion relating to tidymodels (I think a discussions page would be very helpful here).

I would like to perform feature selection as part of my tidymodels workflow (e.g. as part of a workflowset). However, as far as I can tell there are no packages in the tidymodels ecosystem that have variable selection methods.

For example, there is this package which appears to be unmaintained. https://github.com/stevenpawley/colino

In my use cases, I am generating a massive number of variables (see here for more context). I want to be able to evaluate each of these variables independently of each other and then in some sort of combination. Probably using a sequential feature selection.

Filling an issue it not a problem!

As per https://www.tidyverse.org/blog/2024/02/tidymodels-2024-survey/, we are working on feature selection at the moment. We are still is quite early stages!

So as for right now, {colino} is the option you have
