8 years ago Conference/call audio is so badly distorted by high gain settings (pulseaudio volume settings are very low 10%), that I had to switch to mobile client. This bug affects microphone gain, too. In pulseaudio I can see, that input volume is not overdriven, but other party gets a very distorted sound.

The default volume setting is so high, that it is actually an overdrive setting, and due to the resulting clipping and distortion audio quality is worse, than it actually is.
