is project still active? no commits in over a year, and last release was 2020

depends on what is dead...

I'm here :) and will handle/merge critical issues But, unfortunately do not have time to invest into this (as in general, it does the job it started with)

If someone want to contrib/maintain I'd be glad to discuss

I can take over maintenance, but I would only prefer to do so as owner - so up to you - and you could stay on as a contributor. I have significant Go experience, just check my repos:
