The "static" application icon is not meant to be changed as part of standard
OSX behavior.
Anyway, there might be a hack ?
But this means writing inside the application package. And this is not the
normal expected behavior for an application for obvious security reasons...

Understood.
An IM program called Adium allows you to change the dock icon, in case their
code is of help to you?!
Perhaps as quick-fix we could have the icon always remain silver?
Thanks.

Committed in r156 the trick used by Adium.
It doesn't updates the dock icon immediately though (need to restart Audirvana,
or "open in Finder" to get it updated)
