We need to write up a function to convert from row by cohort to row by depth. See this https://github.com/tilbud/MEMs/blob/575902444cb9744c7c9958aa3cb9f6bb4d51f94c/vignettes/ToyModelExamples.Rmd#L258 for an example of how to do this in tidy, but we need to port this to base R to ensure stability.
