Building Block: RDD with a Discrete Running Variable (updated)

I've finished integrating the suggested changes into my building block on RDD with a discrete running variable. The reason I am opening a new pull request is because I had to change the branch and the file location; please let me know if this is fine and I will then close the previous pull request.
