6 years ago I'm not sure automatically closing issues that have been open for a long time is a good idea, due to the fact that there isn't an active group of developers contributing. It may take a long time before someone gets to reviewing the issue.
However, I can see the value of keeping things cleaned up. @pnorman, @springmeyer?
