I have created an introductory campaign. It uses 3 of the 4 videos in the series. The other video requires a source of acapella sounds that I don't have.
It should be a really friendly intro to music composition. There are some great videos on making specific styles of music here and here that I will likely add after the Certified Gold Badge. https://studiotyee.bytedeck.com/maps/18/1086/20/
The first quest has students join the Digital Media class. This is not necessary. I have kept it as this might be useful in future quests and collaborations between students.
5 Music In-The-Style-Of quests were added. They can be completed in any order. The featured artists from the series are all very modern in sound. Not what I would usually listen to, but I think will appeal to many students. These quests could be done with any digital audio workstation (DAW), but were made in BandLab.
Not sure if I will add any more BandLab skill tutorials or if I should scrap Studio One and only use this software for Music Composition.
Campaign is done for now.
I have been looking at a software called BandLab to teach the basics of music production. The website is here for education and here for the regular version. It is completely free to use and runs in a browser.
It is really user friendly and has some great features. There is even a free app that can be used on a smartphone. Although it doesn't have the same power as Studio One (we currently use this), I think it would be much friendlier for student to first attempt creating music.
Students can create an account via email or use a Google/Facebook/Apple account to login.
There are a series of 4 videos starting here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f255KJGVQjE. They are designed for music teachers, but will work. I had a couple of students give the first video a go and they enjoyed the process.
