Fussy comments on qStudio 3.10 #92

I have been using qStudio 3.10 on a Mac for a little bit, and it's really fun. I have some comments on things that would improve the user experience. None of these is a serious problem, but added together they would make a difference:

Many thanks for considering these thoughts.

Hi Rich,

Thanks, this is very useful information to have.

For some of these I will try to give the context of why they work how they work. I'm a slow thinker and qStudio is a long term product so forgive me if I ponder on some of our feedback a long time before making changes.

${file-being-edited} ${database-name} ${registed-email} Since the icon makes it obvious it's qstudio, the file/database name is particularly useful for people who run multiple instances of qStudio. The registered email is shown as qStudio for kdb+ only in large firms, requires a license. To discourage illegitimate sharing of licenses or misuse of personal licenses for corporate use we have to shown the email.

"Is there a window that I can use to view contents of a table? It currently seems that the "Results" window is used for both the result of a query and a table's contents...". I agree this is confusing. Probably the most popular request is to move to one result pane per document. One useful alternative to compate tables is to use the "pop out to new window" button as shown below: It let's you save as result to a draggable window.

I absolutely agree with this approach. And since I only use a tiny bit of the interface, I am unaware of the larger context of how "the rest of the world" uses qStudio.

I will continue my practice of pointing out things that seem odd to me, or that might be improved. But I want to state clearly that it's YOUR project, and unless you hear a groundswell of support (or unless it seems like a good idea), you should take my suggestions with a grain of salt. Thanks!
