Town Hall meeting #25

Open timo-b-roettger opened 2 years ago

@sirileknes @dsquintana @Tamara-Kalan @agboch @julienmayor

Find attached the .pdf of slides including my stream of consciousness regarding what to say. It turned out to be rather vague at this stage (reflected in our lack of content in the google doc). I think, since there are many open questions we should make the most of the town hall meeting and let the crowd stir the conversation:

Things to do:

Plan: 12:05-12:25: Introduction (Slides) 12:25-12:40: Breakout room and collaborative document 12:40-13:00: 2mins 2x for Local Leads (Tamara & Lewend), Call to Action (get in involved)

This looks great @troettge!! Great work. One thing: when you talk about how replication crisis lead to sea change in how we do research, I think it's a bit exaggerated. Some sub-field and some researchers implemented real changes and funders are pushing for it, but a HUGE number of academics have still not changed anything (even with funders requirements in place, lots of academics are not funded by external grants and don't need to meet any of these demands). I agree on your point and that RN should help make things more efficient but it should also help promote the very idea of open and reproducible research (because many have not even heard about it).

I think we should also maybe start by introducing ourselves and who we are? (Maybe that should come as the second slide, before replication crisis?) So that people know who is talking to them? And then show some sort of agenda (1. Short presentation on NORRN, 2. Q&A, 3. Brainstorming ideas, or something like that) so that people know what's coming.

Regarding the structure, how long is the presentation, 15 minutes? Then I think we should have a short Q&A session in case they have any questions or comments to what you say in the presentation, Timo. And then maybe brainstorming, answering questions that we bring in?

I was also wondering if we should have a short mentimeter asking people which institution they are from, which discipline, what position (phd, prof, etc) to get an overview over who showed up to the town hall?

Btw, we already had another town hall issue opened from before - I will close it to keep things tidy.

Good point I will try to implement that

Introduce us as individuals? How about just a slide of the seven of us with name and affiliation? Saves time and we will be in the discussions later anyways? Agenda yes, I just need one from you guys.

I think <10mins actually. Yeah I was thinking maybe a 10mins Q&A and comments and then transition into brainstorming.

Good idea!

@troettge this looks really great! And I agree wiith @agboch 's suggestions too. Have just a few comments:

I think one slide with names and affiliation sounds good and enough.

Also, 10 min is fine I think. Thanks for putting all this together!
