Allow users to set a merge or export process going and exit the application. #34

As:
A user

I want to be able to:
Set a merge or export going and exit the application, and be informed when the 
process has finished, either by email or a status flag when I return to the 
application to check on progress.

So that I can:
Do something else while the process runs.
