I have never seen the "post-retirement" component

a4exp(lambda4x)

it is not in the original source (cited in the Help page). What exactly is it supposed to capture? Does anyone know the source? Also, it does not seem to have the same form as the other components (should there be a mu4 subtracted from x? should the lambda be multiplied by -1?)

It is an up slope to capture moves for care at the end of life or after the death of a partner, such as to nursing homes or to live with son/daughters family. Not sure when it was introduced; the earliest mention i can find is https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0164027587094002 which also has some nice examples of post-retirement slopes in US Census data (e.g. Florida to Illinois)

The formula in the code is consistent with formula in publications that discuss the the post retirement component.
