End support and distribution of Processing prototype #23

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

Now that the Java version is in better shape and working off an
easier-to-edit config file, we can end the support and distribution of the
old Processing prototype. Is there any reason to NOT remove it from the trunk?

I agree that it can now safely be removed from the trunk, we should move it
into the
tags to preserve the 'original' :)

Yes, moving "trunk/code_swarm" sub-folder to something like "tags/initial" or
"tags/processing" would be great.
This would mark a new step in the project.

But please, consider not doing so before reaching the few following goals :
1) Removing Processing from documentation (move in an "archive" section)
2) Writing a (short) how-to for developers instead, with dependencies (ant &
java-sdk)
3) And, perhaps, releasing an "alpha-tagged" jar in "dist", to permit non
developers
to use code_swarm, as I have noticed that there are actual users without
neither ant
nor java sdk that played with it like a tool : Processing is in a way not so
complex,
much more simple than than installing ant and java sdk for Windows XP for
instance
(with PATH to update, JAVA_HOME to create...) and in Ubuntu, it requires to use
some
"sudo update-java-alternatives -s java-6-sun" commands and so on.

If some of those points take some times or are postponed, it would at least be
a good
idea to write the appropriates issue repports.

I am starting a small developer's guide in Wiki pages, with how-to setup the
required
environment.

"tags/prototype" would do just fine while it is called like this in
documentation

Please review and complete the HowToBuild wiki page standing for point 3) :

I moved trunk/code_swarm to tags/prototype/code_swarm.
Now all that's left is to revise the documentation to reflect this.

Most documentation references to Processing have been revised. There may be
ones I
missed.
