Check your TaskbarGroups\Shortcuts folder. I moved the application and that also happened. When I went there and applied the new icons to those shortcuts things started to work again.
You delete or rename the instance in your shortcuts folder and then save it again. It will then have your updated icon.
none of them work, i have the same problem and it is like that for windows 11 and 10
Bug testing:
Icons will not update when...
Deleting old group and creating new one - seems to cache somewhere internally based on the original name.
Deleting config files does not remove cache.
Deleting original TaskbarGroups folder incase .exe was rerouting, still caches even after replacement.
Changing icon manually via shortcut properties does not work.
I was able to fix this by setting the icon in Taskbar Groups, unpinning, right clicking on the shortcut, Properties > Shortcut > Change Icon... > selecting the icon > pinning again.
The icon seems to be cached somewhere. I deleted the source file and remade the group, but no matter what I do, the group still displays the old icon when it is pinned to the task bar.
I cannot make sense of it. I've tried deleting and remaking the group, but it always seems to find the old icon somewhere. No idea how.
Edit:
Yay it seems to have broken all of my icons too. Thanks.
I have no idea how to fix this now.
