patzip commented 6 years ago

same problem for me for the past several hours

MrFobwatch commented 6 years ago

I've determined the issue is with Yahoo's YQL service but I don't know what else to do. Hopefully someone else more knowledgeable can change the data source.

patzip commented 6 years ago

It's gone again. The server it uses is not responding to pings. https://query.yahooapis.com/

F1r3f0x commented 5 years ago

image It's because the service has been retired https://developer.yahoo.com/yql/

MirceaMx commented 5 years ago

@F1r3f0x First: 👍 Thanks for letting us know. Second: Is there anything we can do?

Luke717 commented 5 years ago

Glad I came across this thread. Today I had the connection error message for the first time, now I understand why. I found a discussion on the Rainmaker forum https://forum.rainmeter.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=30807 that has some fix suggestions. Lots of trial and error I think. What about the Yahoo suggestion re a new API endpoint?

sixorbs commented 5 years ago

This has happened to me as well. Would be great if there was a fix for this since the Yahoo service has been retired.

Shrekmachine commented 5 years ago

same here, not working since 2 days

GrAsShOpPeR2K commented 5 years ago

Same here.

kael070 commented 5 years ago

Same here, I love the looks of Win10Widgets, anyone have a fix? I found fixes for enigma but can't get them to work

Toby-Broom commented 5 years ago

The developer would need to contact Yahoo for API credentials to continue using the Yahoo service. Since Kaelri's skin used a separate Yahoo file with the code in it wasn't so hard to make a drop in replacement. For this skin it's needs some reverse engineering to switch over to weather.com

Win 10 Widgets on Github: https://github.com/tjmarkham/win10widgets/issues/120

Important EOL Notice: As of Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, the YQL service at query.yahooapis.com will be retired. This will impact users of datatables.org as well as developers who creates features using this YQL service. To continue using our free Yahoo Weather APIs, use https://weather-ydn-yql.media.yahoo.com/forecastrss as your new API endpoint. Contact yahoo-weather-ydn-api@oath.com for credentials to onboard to this free Yahoo Weather API service. Other YQL based services that use query.yahooapis.com will no longer operate.

Good alternatives to implement:

Thanks jhon, you are the mvp

GrAsShOpPeR2K commented 5 years ago

Did it go down for anyone again? I am getting connection error on the new one too

MirceaMx commented 5 years ago

Nope. Not down. You must have done something wrong.

Luke717 commented 5 years ago

Echoing all other comments - thank you, John! Only issue for me is that auto-location doesn't work: shows incorrect location (by about 4K miles!); if I tell it to use auto-location, I get a connection error. Setting location manually seems to work just fine even though it doesn't show my exact location but close enough.

In any case, I'm very happy with what you've done so thank you for developing this.
