upgrade from catalina #2

Open no1ajian opened 4 years ago

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

replaced my old efi, works great on catalina, thanks. tried to upgrade to big sur beta, failed. is there any way i can update to big sur without virtual machine?

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

or, is it possible to install os11 without losing my data?

tlefko commented 4 years ago

@no1ajian hey, this EFI only works up to the second big sur beta for developers. I'm currently developing the EFI for the public beta. So until then unless you use any bets earlier than developer beta 2 it won't work or boot properly. I'm trying to have it boot the installer for this update though so you can install without losing data or having to use a vm

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

Looking forward to it. Good work so far!

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

i updated with opencore (not so perfect but worked) then i switched to your efi, got stuck at exitbs start

tlefko commented 4 years ago

@no1ajian hey man, send me an email lefkotyler@gmail.com with your opencore EFI. I can probably merge my clover with my work to make it complete. would you mind telling me the bugs?

this is the link most features works perfectly except my cpu can't be recognized correctly and i can't find a way to alter smbios

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

i'm totally newbie to opencore though

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

after working on it for a whole day can't solve them or update opencore to latest version

is that the only issue? is power management working. you can alter that by modifying the plist for macOS tho if you want help

tlefko commented 4 years ago

I'll install the new beta now with this EFI and let you know my personal findings

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

And error on bootup too, showing "no schema for arch" Whatever that means I think it's because of old opencore version Got to work, pls let me know if u can fix them

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

Hey man, any luck? Just now my touchpad freezed after being idle for a few minutes (using the efi i gave u)

hey sorry I haven't had a chance to look. the trackpad isn't frozen, if you press print screen in turns it off. press again to reenable

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

sucessfully update it to opencore latest version. what's not working so far: 1. type-c 2.smbios (processor unknown, serial number unavailable). i am sending efi to your email.

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

yo, man, somehow... i got it all worked out! sending to you tell me if you find anything wrong

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

Oops, type c hot plug not working. Btw i think ur efi might be better, can u unlock cfg? I looked up the exitbs start code, it says cfg problem

Hey, the issue is clover isn't supported. I got your email with the opencore and I'll try to add what's missing. Did the trackpad thing I said solve the other issue? Also, I should have some dsdts we can reuse for power management (the CPU isn't scaling properly under your setup) so battery will take a hit. Is there anything else important?

Cdg lock isn't related to clover it's just not able to boot sur

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

The trackpad seems fine now Type c hotplug doesn't work Had to plug before boot Except that i can't find anything but i bet you will

no1ajian commented 4 years ago

I got typec fixed But i have no clue about power management Is it cpufriend is about?

tlefko commented 4 years ago

Hey @tlefko. I was using your Catalina setup which worked fine except for sleep (QHD display) and buitlin Wifi. I tried the above OpenCore setup and it is almost perfect. Apart from the issues highlighted by @no1ajian. How did you get proper macbook profile with serials to appear. My Ram is not properly mapped (still shows a total of 8GB though) and CPU is not specified (speed is). I tried editing plist using Clover Configurator (probably wrong method) to generate SMBIOS and serials using Macbook 13.2, but nothing sticks and just 2 passive errors on bootup appear related to SMBIOS and serials not being in index.

What I love about is the DW1820A built-in Wifi chip is working out of the box, without any problems. Which never worked before, ever! I had disabled it in bios to prevent KP and used a dongle. Not anymore! Sleep is working flawlessly as well. Bootup is faster thanks to OpenCore Display is brighter, Sound is louder (Combojack had to be installed for headphones) Touchpad works great with gestures and all If only I could get properly About Mac page, it would be perfect.

@tlefko be best to abandon Clover and move over to this as the guy who made the OC profile has abandoned the project as he's got a new laptop. https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-success-big-sur-public-beta-dell-xps-13-9350-opencore-0-60-opencanopy.303162/

Be great if you can pick it up and resolve the issues present. For the previous issues are no more, with this one.

@Saad-LUMS DW1820A is the built in wifi inside 9350 right ? And now is working under open core ? Thats great news, the problem now with my catalina using DW1560 is dont work properly inside windows 10. Is usb c works fine ? I used usb c hub inside catalina currently

Thanks

Hey guys I forgot to actually update this. There is a patch for the 1820a I forgot to release. If you need it let me know!

tlefko commented 3 years ago

@Saad-LUMS the about this mac stuff is odd, tbh I don't have the laptop anymore. But in my experience opencore isn't required to have a good experience. I have a matebook x with clover and it's perfect. That being said, the display being brighter is literally impossible, same with speaker output. You would definitely need combo Jack for sound. The fact they got sleep working is incredible I have to admit. I'll be sure to try to fix that in the build. However that being said, I'll def look at their project to see if I can fix the about this mac. Please note SLEEP QHD is only broken under catalina not big sur. That being said This repo won't work under big sur until I update the bootloader files. I appreciate the input tho and I'll look at the project and try to pick it up!

tlefko commented 3 years ago

Let me look if I have the email @no1ajian sent because I think I fixed the about the mac page there

Works either, there's a properties patch

x4080 commented 3 years ago

@tlefko do you mean DW1560 can work in windows 10 ?

Saad-LUMS commented 3 years ago

Yup, the built-in Wifi chip is working fine. I don't use the USB-C port, so can't say.

Thanks @tlefko. Yeah maybe it's just the shift to Big Sur and the patch for DW1820a that has solved all my problems.

tlefko commented 3 years ago

@Saad-LUMS whatever it was glad it works : )

tlefko commented 3 years ago

yes @x4080

x4080 commented 3 years ago

@tlefko Could you give tips how to do it ? Any links available ? Thanks
