I am happy to submit a review and approve but is it what you want ? I am confused because of your last comment.

I think before merging we should add a flag to switch on/off this features because saving the read ids takes up extra space in SampCompDB. We should also add some documentation on this. At the moment I don't have time to do it, but I opened the PR so that I don't forget about it :)
