Issue 10 has been merged into this issue.

This is known issue(s) with the current legacy Camera HAL we are using. Problem
will not be fixed until either HTC releases updated libs OR someone gets the
current legacy hack we are using to work (better than what it is)..
Also merging with issue #10 "Video recorder fails" as these are both the same
issue and both wont be fixed until either of the above comes along.

Yea, everyone will experience these issues... But again, this problem wont be
fixed until either HTC releases an official update or someone comes along and
improves/fixes the current legacy HAL we are using now.
There are some 3rd party apps and/or tricks that seem to make things a little
better.. Shooting in landscape seems to minimalize the artifacts some (however
there is still some).. Some 3rd party apps seem to work better for some/most
people (Angel Cam, Pudding Camera..etc) .. But nothing is promised to work,
some users have good results with 3rd party apps, while others do not.

With recent update (AR25) one part of this has been resolved, there is no
longer any glitches when taking a normal picture. However, video camera still
does not work and Panaroma mode is a little buggy, but does work.
Alot of work is still being done by Twisted, things are coming along fastly and
we should start seeing a working video camera very soon.

480p now works in current BR3-Test3, will also be fixed in upcoming official
BR3. Only tested with stock Camera.apk, cannot promise it works on 3rd party
apps... but its a start.
With BR3-Test3 make sure to select 480p, 720 will cause FC. With official BR3 i
will make it where 480p is the only option so the Camera.apk defaults to 480p

Issue 99 has been merged into this issue.
Original comment by robbe...@gmail.com

I experienced Issue 99 and after examining the logs, it seems to be related
with the media service (¿?) not being able to create thumbnails for some
videos encoded with the 3GP codec that are inside the usual directory for
camera files (DCIM). Renaming the directory fixes the ussue and everything
works as expected and no more FC's.
If you need logs to have a closer look into this, let me know.

Yes, if you can provide logs of this ill take a look at it.
The main reason i merged Issue 99 into this one was because right now theres so
many different issues regarding the Camera/Video Camera (mainly because we are
using a hack to get gingerbread blobs working, plus using 2.6.35 kernel). So
for now im going to keep all camera issues in one general ticket. So feel free
to post any logs and/or issues here regarding Camera, even if its not exactly
as the one in the OP.

Brightness goes all the way up when using the LED light. Example, taking a
picture and having the LED flash. After taking the photo, going back home the
brightness turns up all the way. It is fixed when you lock the device and wake
it back up, but maybe you can look into this?

I use BR7 on my Desire HD and I have a problem with the camera, too. Recordings
are often distorted. The worst error is when the flash is on.

Moving to "backlog" for now since its very unlikely this will be 100% in near
releases. Quite a bit of work is still needed for Camera/Video. As of right now
both seem to at least function (Camera, Video 480p/720p, Panaroma), although
there is still some glitches, it is in a working state. Since the CameraHAL is
tied into the framework, it will take someone with knowledge of the CameraHAL
to get it 100%.
