Just kill/or restart whatever is messed up, in this case the launcher.. This
happens on all ICS roms ATM, theres still alot of graphical glitches that need
to be fixed. But easiest way to get around this, is to enable long press back
to kill (under developer settings), then whenever it does this just long press
back to kill/reload it and it will be fine then.

A quick reboot will fix the problem as well.

I am still seeing this in BR2.

I noticed this issue came up after I tried to record a video from the stock
camera app. It crashed out after about 30 seconds of recording and then all the
fonts were fubar until a reboot.

This issue is occurring more frequently. Today it happened in Gmail app also.
all the letters went crazy.

So this issue is not device specific, or even aospX specific...it happens on
Galaxy Nexus with stock ICS (and custom roms). So im leaning towards something
in AOSP Launcher, but im not 100%..its just an initial thought. If i was able
to find a way to trigger this where a certain task or whatever will make it
happen every time, then it would help speed up finding a fix/cause of the
issue. So if anyone finds a way to make this happen every time let me know.

Renamed ticket to something more generalized since it does happen in some apps
as well.

It has happened to me once on Apex Launcher, but it seems to happen more often
in apps with long lists of things, such as in Gmail, Twitter, Titanium Backup,
and BaconReader. Especially when I scroll through things fast, the text tends
to jumble up more often.

Yes this happens with me when I scroll fast

After BR6 it isn't happening

It is possible that one of the backported JB fixes fixed it (there was quite a
few). So hopefully we did get lucky and it accidentally fixed this. But i need
quite a few people to verify this since its so random. I personally havent had
it happen in quite a while so we need to make 100% it doesnt pop back up. Which
those of you who had it happen when scrolling in apps, that shouldnt be to hard
to reproduce...but the launcher part is the one that might take awhile before
it happens.

I have had it happen to me a bunch since flashing BR6, so unfortunately I don't
think the JB fixes fixed it. :(

With full wipe?

Original comment by robbe...@gmail.com on 19 Aug 2012 at 3:57

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Yeah, I did full wipe, then installed Apex Launcher, and it almost instantly
borked out on me. So far, it's only happened to me when scrolling on apps and
on the launcher.

According to http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=35072 this is a
problem in FontRender.cpp

I've seen this, infrequently, also in BR7 (app names in home screen), after
full wipe. Also, it once happened to Google navigation. To me: a really minor
issue, I don't think I ever rebooted because of this.

As per the AOSP bug reports, its an ICS issue, doesnt happen with JB

Moving to "backlog" since the cause is still not clear and a fix seems unlikely
for near/upcoming releases. Per AOSP bug reports it seems that a possible cause
for this is in FontRender.cpp, but the exact problem has not been determined
yet.

I encountered this problem a few times too. Don't remember exactly how to
reproduce it but last time I was switching back and forth between the Apps
drawer and Home screen (using Apps and back button quickly) while having
animation turned on.

I am using MR1, clean install, no restore, just the pure ROM.

Reboot will surely fix it.

However, changing font size from Settings/Display will fix it as well, just
make sure you change to all font sizes available and go back to the home screen
after each change (change font size, go to home screen, back to change
different font size, go to home screen...) and the corrupt text will be fixed.

So, maybe a font refresher will fix? I don't know, just a thought...

Other than that, thanks for the good work.

This happens very often to me as well, several times a day.
For what matters the '
This happens on all ICS roms ATM'
part, I tried plenty and no one was affected by this issue.

Thanks for caring

As mentioned above this is an AOSP ICS bug, and it does happen on other ICS
roms (including stock AOSP 4.0)

https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=35072
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=25393

You can enable Long Press Back to Kill under Developer Settings and when this
issue happens just long press back to kill/restart the app. It seems AOSP
narrowed the issue down to something in FontRender.cpp, but no fix has been
pushed to any ICS branch AFAIK (this issue does not exist on JB), and also it
seems to only happen with hardware accelerated apps. But I no longer support
aospX and/or DHD/Inspire, so I will not be looking into these issues any
further. Although im open to any experienced dev wanting to take over aospX
(but the dev must be highly experienced and know what he/she is doing. I do not
have time to work on this rom, let alone teach someone the basics of developing
an AOSP rom) So hopefully someone takes over and is able to fix this issue in
the future.
