Email app not displaying body of the message #50

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Open Email app to view message list (works)
2.Select message from list and see the message header
3.Message body text is white on white background.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The message body is not readable, but it is selectable. This issue was also
present in the Google Web Login screen, however I 'fumbled' around on the page
and was able to enter the pertinent data.

What version of the product are you using?
AR29

Please provide logcat ouput and any additional information below.

I get this with Gmail app as well.. For me it will load the message but as soon
as I touch (to either scroll or whatever) the message disappears. Its possible
its from the CAF skia/webkit changes, theres something I can try but if that
doesnt work Ill try reverting back to the previous AOSP method we was using
(which skia is actually 2 versions newer than CAFs, but CAFs has alot of
optimizations). Ill post once I figure something out.

Ok, so I think ive got this fixed.. Seems it was due to one commit from CAFs
skia, I reverted the commit and now GMail/Email shows messages correctly..
Issue will be fixed in AR30.

You're the best!

I noticed the same thing in my Gmail too. Seems this issue was intermittent
because my messages showed up a few times in Email app since my initial finding
and Gmail was sometimes not showing.

AR30 is live, please let me know if this resolved the issue on your end.

Unfortunately, issue is not resolved. I just loaded AR30 yesterday and
experienced the same problems described above.

I was just going to post that this just happened again. I hadn't experienced
the issue at first.

Well shit.., After 30 ive yet to reproduce this again. On 29 it happened every
single time, but after webkit/skia changes it has worked correctly each and
every time.

So, now time to see if theres anything specific that triggers it

I've noticed if I close the email app and open it again when this occurs, the
message body displays after a very short lag if that helps...

Happens to me as well. Unable to reproduce on-demand but occurs ~50% of the
time. tried K-9 and it had its own issues so I removed it. Do you need any
logs on this issue?

Experience this sporadically on 30. If I close Gmail then re-run it, the
problem resolves itself.

This is happening on A31 too. As mentioned if you reopen then app, you can see
the message for a second and then everything in message goes white.

Try going to Settings->Apps->All->Gmail->Clear Data and see if issue continues.
After clean install of 30/31 (without restoring any data) Ive yet to be able to
reproduce the issue. So possibly clearing out old app data could fix it.

Tried clearing Gmail data and email body still doesn't show. Coming from a Full
Wipe and on A31.

I've been on ar31 for awhile now great work. I do get this issue of email not
showing up in the standard app. I've solved it by stopping the app and then
going back in seems to fix it.

I may have a related problem email keeps disappearing even though I don't
delete it from my inbox.

I have been having this issue also. However when I clear the application's
cache

menu -> manage apps -> running processes -> stop the process then "show cached"
at the bottom. then select the process and hit stop.

when I do that the applications start to show the data again and it continues
to work again for a few days.. Has anyone else had any success/failure?

Ok, so finally had this pop back up after about 2wks of it not
happening...cleared app data (Settings->Apps->All->Gmail) and now working
correctly again. Ill see how long it last this time and see if I can find
anything paticular that triggers it.

I can reproduce it every time in the standard email app with imaps.

Load the app, find an email that has not been read/downloaded and click on it..
then before it loads go back to the email list screen. Hit home, when the email
client then loads again and you try and email the content never appears.

Stop the cached process under manage apps -> running -> show cached -> email ->
stop

Then go back to the email and it works again. I can reproduce it every time..
Do you guys get the same results?

This also happens with the facebook app. The news feed disappears. If you
scroll up, as to refresh, the feed appears again, but disappears again once you
let go.

As in Comment #17, goto Settings->Apps->All->Gmail (or Email), Force close the
app, then clear the apps data.. This fixes it for me every time.

Issue seems to be resolved in upcoming BR3.. This issue originally started back
when I first merged CodeAurora's webkit/skia/chromium.. With latest BR3-Test4
we now use AOSP/JellyBean webkit/skia/chromium and the issue seems to be
resolved now. I should have official BR3 up soon for those that dont want to
run test builds.

Changes are now merged into ics-devel

BR3 is now posted... Can someone who had this issue alot verify its resolved? A
full wipe is required with BR3, so please only report after a clean wipe.

Fix-Committed -> Fixed

Issue seems to be resolved in BR3. Im going to close this ticket for now, if
issue pops back up then ill re-open the ticket. But currently i am unable to
reproduce this now with BR3.
