Bugfix/pre release for gh issue 218 #223

Initial attempt as a work around for fixing the DOCKER_CONFIG as noted in issue #218. If this is good to release, i'll cut this as 2.0.9 and save the rest of my gaint refactor for 2.0.10.

@chucknelson - If you have time, I'd love small code review and if you could please test this on your workstation?

No problem, my friend. I hope all is well in your part of the world and I totally don't expect you to jump on each issue immediately. I just appreciate a second set of eyes when time permits. Thanks again for your help and I'm really excited to see if this works as a temporary workaround until I can get the time I need to refactor it further.
