GeoTIFF #10

Just a quick observation, there is mention of GeoTIFF but not of NetCDF (which is probably more appropriate for most cases of large data).

NetCDF is not necessarily a geo format, right? I was considering a 'scientific data' section but wasn't sure about the right formats initially, like data frames?

Perhaps not officially but it is the de facto standard among most geospatial systems. We use it heavily on the OPEC portal ( http://portal.marineopec.eu/v3/static/index.html). GeoTIFF is basically the TIFF image format modified/hacked for geo. They can both be used, but NetCDF is usually recommended.
