did anyone manage to update to sfos 3.4 or post 3.4? for me it doesn't boot anymore

tmikkonen commented 2 years ago

Haven't tried in a while myself. On TMO, ferlanero mentioned having success even with 4.0 but you probably have seen the post https://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1571187&postcount=260

No, but i have a v5 instead of v3 so maybe that's why it isn't working for me

Yes because sometimes the Page seems to be down. I didn't even write down the package name

there seems to be a server down for the onda specific packages , because at upgrade to sfos 2.2 it doesn't want to remove some packages it asks only about breaking one and then even cannot find some Python packages, which i ignored, but it doesn't boot then afterwards.

tmikkonen commented 2 years ago

I remember having had issues with the servers not responding a couple of years ago. I don't know/remember if they were Jolla servers or possibly the servers where the onda specific files are hosted. What I do remember there was nothing I could do but wait. The matter resolved itself in a few days back then, which is of course no guarantee of it happening now. I noticed you already mentioned this on the TMO thread so hopefully someone who can do something about the servers notices. Even though I am no help regarding the servers thanks for letting me know.

After a rather long delay, I can also confirm that with my V5 tablet the upgrade to 3.4.0.24 results in black screen after the reboot. I tried a second run from scratch and did ssu re 3.3.0.16 pkcon refresh pkcon install droid-compat-v820w-droid-system before the reboot after upgrading to 3.4.0.24 but that only ended in the message Problem: nothing provides droid-system-tbj...

The only thing I can suggest is not to upgrade past 3.3.0.16 if using a V5 tablet. Would be nice to have even SFOS 4 working for the tablet, though.

I have the same problem. If you through the ssh connection (it's hard because it's falling down all the time) to continue following the upgrade sequence till the version 4, screen starts flashing sometimes you can see images of the desktop, just for a second. I cannot continue the upgrades because the connection by ssh is too weak. I would like to see if a newer version solves the screen problem.

Furthermore, I also have no sound on the version 3.3.0.16.

When updating, I usually keep the tablet connected to a charger and also set 'Keep the display on while charging' in Settings -> Display. Should help with the SSH connection drop outs.

I had the same idea regarding newer versions possibly fixing the blank screen and tried the updates via SSH (+ screen) but could only go as far as 4.1.0.24 which didn't even finish booting but was stuck on the ANDROID text. In other words, the latest working version (excluding the blank screen) was 4.0.1.48.

how could you upgrade past 3.3.0.16 to 4.0.1.48?

3.3.0.16 disables the SSH so it needs to be re-enabled first in Developer options. Then just upgrade to 3.4.0.24. It boots to blank screen but SSH works (see above: "I usually keep the tablet connected to a charger and also set 'Keep the display on while charging' in Settings -> Display"). After that, it's possible to upgrade first to 4.0.1.48 and yet again to 4.1.0.24, which won't boot far enough to be reachable via SSH using WiFi and thus cannot be upgraded any further. I haven't tried if even the usb connection (192.168.2.15) works at this point.

I see so the last usable version is still 3.3.0.16, right?

Yes. If you want to keep using the V5 tablet stay on 3.3.0.16.
