Haha, I like the attitude. That part of the plugin ("almost sensible options") is deprecated and is going out in some time. So I think there's no point in making any changes there. I'll close the PR on this argument.
From what I see you're keeping your tmux prefix vanilla. Ctrl-b prefix is also not ideal as it overrides the "backward one character" bash shortcut as well as vim's "one screen backward" key.
Ctrl-b is also harder to type (finger stretch) so when you actually want to send the prefix key to the terminal by pressing it twice, it's harder than if Ctrl-a was the prefix.
One last argument for Ctrl-a I have is that Nicholas Marriott, the creator of tmux is using Ctrl-a as the prefix. You can see that in his tmux.conf.
