We received Maxent species models, both thresholded and unthresholded for all mammals in CA for current and future climate scenarios. I am using the unthresholded models to be consistent with the bird and plant richness methodology and will sum ~200 rasters to create the current richness raster

From: Joseph We parameterized models for each species using psuedo-absence points within 100-km of occurrence records. We chose this approach to capture climate mechanism that limits distribution and to avoid biassing models against areas that they are limited from existing due to dispersal or other limitations, but not climate. As a result the models predict lots of areas as suitable where we know the species don't exist.

To estimate mammal species richness, I would either use the maximum dispersal threshold that we used in our report or parameterize the models with psuedo-absence data from the entire spatial domain that you are assessing species richness for.

UPDATE: dispersal distances are dependent on time-frame and he used these because he was doing future projected SDMs. he recommended then for the current dist to use 100km - so that is what we used to clip the unthresholded models
