Add Ente to Privacy-Respecting Cloud Backups Section #18

The New Oil's current backup recommendations page provides a good overview of backup practices and privacy-respecting cloud storage options. However, it does not yet include coverage of Ente, a promising new player in this space.

Ente is an E2EE, open source, privacy-respecting cloud storage solution with some compelling unique features:

Proposal

Integrate Ente into the existing Backups section as follows:

  1. Add a new "Ente" subsection after the "Privacy-Respecting Cloud Backups" section
    • Overview of Ente's key differentiators (E2EE, open source, decentralized storage, facial recognition, semantic search)
    • Include pricing details
  2. Add Ente to the comparison table of recommended cloud backup solutions
  3. Mention Ente briefly in the concluding "If you follow these steps..." paragraph (e.g., "Solutions like Ente provide secure, privacy-respecting cloud backup options for photos and videos")

Thanks for the feedback! Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Ente only for photos? The backup page is designed to be for all file types - videos, documents, whatever you want. If Ente is photo-only, it wouldn't apply to that particular section. That said, Ente is listed on the multifactor authentication page for Ente Auth and also on the "mobile apps" page for a photo manager alternative. Let me know if I'm missing something and I can revisit it.

Yes, you are right! Ente is for photos and videos only. Would you like to add a separate category for it? They are featured on my AlternativeTo list, PrivacyGuides, and recently on the Linus Tech Tips video.
