Improve legibility of path #17

Open tobiasvl opened 5 years ago

tobiasvl commented 5 years ago

I'm still not satisfied with how easy it is to "read" the path. d47934c improved it somewhat, but I'm considering making the path a snake-like trail instead of, or in addition to, the outline. Something like the original Polarium's hint. Any thoughts are welcome.

Something like this (upper screen) maybe?

And this is how it looks now:

Yellow might work better? Or a dual yellow/gold? (the original is a 2-pixel path). And why green rather than red for the end?

Green on grey, for me, isn't very good contrast.

Orange is less bright than yellow.

I'll try to mock something up

I don't think a 2-pixel path works well with only 8x8 tiles. Especially not with two next to each other. Yellow on white isn't very good contrast either, but maybe red will work. Could look at Polarium Advance for inspiration too (it's where I got the pink from, before activating the path drawing).

My memory has faded, I'd have to boot them up again. Tempting.

@gingerbeardman, is this too noisy?

I like the snake, but it is used on DS top screen for a hint so I do feel like it is overkill for the path? It obscures the underlying tile too much.

With my experiments, single lines orange (or yellow just do not work well enough on their own, not enough contrast).

To go back a bit, we need:

How about either of these?
