Map refreshes too slow when driving #5

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Activate the app and start driving

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: Map is panning along the direction of driving.
Reality: takes ages for the initial map to load. When driving, the screen goes 
blank because the map is not updated fast enough. When stopping at a traffic 
light, the map refresh will catch up. 

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.8, N900.

Please provide any additional information below.
Must have a possibility to download the whole Israel map, and just get minor 
updates trough the cellular network. Map download should be done by WiFi or 
USB. It will cost too much to download the wole map using the cellular network.

I will only be able to fix it after switching to the new design, which will be 
after version 0.1 (see project road map: Replace OpenLayers...).

This issue will remain open for future references.
