What versions (if any) of Moo and Moose do you have installed?

Xliff commented 4 years ago

From CPAN:

Moose v2.12

Also the following relevant-ish modules:

Moo::sification undef
Moo::_strictures        undef
Moo::_Utils     undef
MooX::HandlesVia        0.001008
tobyink commented 4 years ago

What about the version of Moo though?

Xliff commented 4 years ago

@tobyink: Moo is not installed.

Xliff commented 4 years ago

So I've gone and installed Moo 2.004 and I am still getting the same error messages. Any other thoughts?

tobyink commented 4 years ago

I don't really know how you could have Moo::_Utils without having Moo. The former comes with the latter.

You could try upgrading Moose. Version 2.12 came out in January 2014, so it's pretty old and I haven't tested against it in a while. In either case, I'll try to find some time tomorrow to install Moose 2.12 on a testing box and see if I can track down the issue.

Xliff commented 4 years ago

Thanks. I will look into upgrading Moose, but I just recently installed via CPAN, so I would be surprised if there was anything more recent.

I guess I could always install from git, if necessary.

Xliff commented 4 years ago

Actually, I made a mistake with my Moose version. It is 2.2012, not 2.12 -- sorry for the confusion.

tobyink commented 4 years ago

Okay, so same versions of Kavorka, Moo, and Moose, slightly different version of Perl...

[tai@titania pts/2 p5-kavorka]$ perl -MV=Moo

Hmm... are you using a version of Perl built with ithreads? You can check using perl -V | grep useithreads.

Xliff commented 4 years ago

I think so, given the following output:

$ perl -V | grep useithreads
    useithreads=define

Also of note perl -MV=Moo throws an error:

$ perl -MV=Moo

Also:

Pretty sure there are still some issues with Devel::CallParser on threaded Perls.

https://rt.cpan.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=109841

Xliff commented 4 years ago

Ah, I see. Unfortunately, this is the Ubuntu default, I think.

Any thoughts as to a workaround?

Xliff commented 4 years ago

I can confirm that this module installed just fine with a self-compiled perl5 with no threading.

tobyink commented 4 years ago

I think things mostly work on threaded Perls but there are random bugs lurking here and there. If you force install it despite the failed test, you may find that everything works okay in your particular use of the module. It may just be features you're not using anyway that would fail.

If you're installing Kavorka because it's the dependency of an already-written piece of software, then that is probably your best option.

If you're installing Kavorka because you want to write something new using it, then consider Zydeco instead. It's certainly not a drop-in replacement, but it does have a lot in common, and is written on a more stable foundation so should be more reliable. (And currently seems to work fine on threaded Perl.)
