Please comment with ideas for modules for the DroidOrb. Examples:

• docks for various phones and tablets
• clap sensor for clap-to-dismiss notifications
• home automation module e.g. X10 to allow home automation control using docked phone
• alarm system module to wirelessly communicate with alarm system and display zone info on docked phone

Thinking about number 4 - Dashboard for your house

By linking your phone with the alarm system, energy monitor, home entertainment (DLNA), social network / mail status, power alert, irrigation system, your phone becomes a dashboard to your house. E.g. you leave your house and have a quick look on the phone - is the doors closed, is the heaters/stove off, is the sprinkler about to turn on :-). Or what is my electricity bill going to be, how much bandwidth do I have left. Or how much hot water is in the geyser, what is my energy wastage etc. Lots of focus at the moment on energy efficiency, some more coming later this year and next year: Eskom planning massive roll-outs and media campaigns.

Some add-on modules could allow you to control the whole lot - probably want to hook into existing home automation standards, e.g. X10

More ideas:

• Barometer and temperature sensors for weather prediction/logging
• proximity sensor to deter theft of your phone from your desk - it will require user to enter a pin or unlock the phone within specified seconds, else phone starts sounding off an alarm
